Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurupurab, celebrates the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the first guru of the Sikh faith. Guru Nanak Jayanti is one of the most important and auspicious festivals for Sikhs and is observed with great fervor and reverence. These are the reasons why Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated:

Birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji: Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrates the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who was born on April 15, 1469 in the Nanakshahi calendar (Sikh calendar). This celebration is usually held in October or November in the Gregorian calendar.
 
Beliefs: Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus.His teachings and spiritual wisdom laid the foundations of Sikh philosophy.

Teachings of Guru Nanak: Guru Nanak's teachings emphasized the oneness of God, the equality of all people, and the importance of selfless service (seva) and devotion. His philosophy is based on love, compassion and the elimination of social inequality. 

Guru Granth Sahib: Guru Nanak's teachings were compiled in the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhism. Sikhs consider Guru Granth Sahib to be their eternal guru and ultimate spiritual guide.

Celebrations and Observances: Sikhs celebrate Guru Nanak Jayanti with special prayers, kirtan (devotional songs), processions and recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib.Many Sikhs participate in the Nagar Kirtan, a religious ceremony that involves the singing of hymns and the display of the Guru Granth Sahib.
