Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is the origin of jubilant Hindu celebrations in India that mark the victory of righteousness over hostility. This festival is closely associated with the legendary Ramayana, which narrates the tale of Lord Rama's defeat against the demon lord Ravana. The celebrations begin on the tenth day of the Hindu month of Ashvin and usually fall in September or October. They are preceded by nine days of Navratri celebrations.

According to Hindu mythology, Ravana, a dangerous demon king, bravely kidnapped Lord Rama's beloved wife Sita. Determined to win back his beloved companion, Lord Rama, aided by his brave brother Lakshmana and the monkey deity Hanuman, engaged in a bitter confrontation with Ravana and his powerful entourage.The fierce battle lasted for a decade and culminated in the triumphant appearance of Lord Rama on the auspicious tenth day, glorified as Dussehra.

This joyful festival is very popular in many parts of India and Nepal. The ornate houses are lit by dazzling lamps and decorated with colorful floral arrangements and intricate rangoli designs. Devotees take part in the sacred puja rituals and fervently seek the blessings of Goddess Durga, the steadfast embodiment of courage who waged war against the nefarious forces of darkness.
